Drivers should expect icy bridges, overpasses, and elevated surfaces, but even main roads will start to have more problems through sunrise

Update: School Closings | Weather Alerts | Interactive Radar

North Texas school districts are reporting closures, cancellations, and delays due to winter weather. Here's the full list.

A Winter Storm Warning covers much of North Texas including the DFW metro area until 6 p.m. Thursday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for areas south of DFW all the way into Central Texas.

ROADS IMPROVE SOME BUT SLICK SPOTS REMAIN

Temperatures climbed into the low 30s Thursday afternoon and the sun was able to appear through some clouds, allowing roads in some areas to improve some. However, there are plenty of slick spots that remain, and drivers are urged to use caution, especially on bridges and overpasses.

While there is no more precipitation expected Thursday, another hard freeze is forecast for Thursday night and any moisture that remains on roads is likely to refreeze overnight.

Ice amounts were expected to be about 1/10 of an inch in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Higher ice accumulations were expected to the north and east.

These totals don’t look like much, but it is enough to create problems on the roads. Travel is discouraged. If you do have to head out, take it slow and keep a far distance from other vehicles on the roads.

The winter storm has ended and weather conditions are slowly improving. Tonight will be cold and dry. Any leftover moisture on the roads will refreeze leaving a few slick spots.
