Suspicious Vehicle Incident Cleared at Earle Cabell Federal Building: Police

Vehicle owner says driver on an extended break

The roads outside Dallas' Earle Cabell Federal Building were shut down Monday morning for several hours while police investigated a tractor-trailer labeled suspicious.

Someone reported the truck at about 6:23 a.m. parked along Commerce Street, on the opposite side of the building where a gunman opened fire on the lobby and was fatally shot on June 17.

Officers saw what they believed to be suspicious wiring inside the cab of the truck, police said. The bomb squad was notified and a parameter was set, police said. The vehicle opened, investigated and was cleared with no suspicious devices about 9 a.m.

The owner of the truck told police that the driver was on an extended break and has yet to be located, police said. The vehicle, meanwhile, will be towed.

The Dallas Police Department tweeted at 9:11 a.m. that the scene had been cleared; the roadway was reopened to traffic a short time later.

It's unknown if any charges will be filed at this time.
