A little over a year after being placed in a medically-induced coma, new Cowboys defensive tackle Amobi Okoye is back on the field, albeit on a limited basis. Okoye, who was cleared medically last week, has spent the beginning of this week working on conditioning drills with trainers.
“It’s just a privilege getting out there, and getting back in the swing of things is a good feeling,” Okoye told the team’s official website.
We can only imagine. For three months in the spring of last year, diagnosed with the brain disease anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, Okoye spent three months in the aforementioned coma. He remains on the non-football injury list and will continue to work back gradually.
“You’ve got to be cautious with things, because obviously you’re dealing with the brain,” Okoye said. “We’ll take things slowly and progressively get better.”
